I don't think it is widely preferred, but it's becoming more common. Years ago when you saw a guy who was shaved you thought he'd recently been treated for crab lice, or "the crabs." Today it is a fashion statment (which I don't like). Some choose to do it because it might make the penis appear a little longer. Some just like it. I don't.

It tends to look nicer that way. But I think trimmed down is more preferable to completely shaved, just looks nicer. Plus things don't get in the way.
