Does it annoy you when little kiddies treat depression as a trend?

As an adult who is truly suffering from depression, it's very VERY annoying to see these little "emo" kids flaunt, what they call "depression" out, like on MySpace and stuff. I know that when I was in one of my ruts (I'm in remission now =] ), I did not want to dye my hair black and I didn't hate my parents.. I also don't remember putting quotes and stuff about it all over my MySpace.

EX: Someone just asked in a question earlier what kind of quote he should put on his MySpace about his depression, because "he has it".. like it's an obligation to let everyone know or something.

I don't know. It's just annoying and offensive when these dumb people just treat it as a trend.

What do you think?

I suppose so. Teen angst leading misguided youth into claiming depression is pretty sad. My experience with depression was such an intensely personal experience that I can't even imagine broadcasting it over the internet as I was suffering through it. I couldn't even open up to the people I love about it, and still can't to this day because most people simply can't understand. I guess I can't really blame them though. Today's youth is the drugged generation. Every boy with energy has ADD, girls suffer from anxiety or panic attacks, too many kids diagnosed and drugged for behavior that children have always exhibited. Growing up in a world like that can you blame them for self-diagnosing other mental health problems?

I know, but there are kids who are seriously depressed. I was talking with a girl that was raped as a girl and now she is depressed. she could feel better but I think all this emo depression trend makes her worse. Report It

Yes, I think it's offensive. Depression is a serious issue, and pretending to be so is obnoxious. Being emo is fashionable, when it used to be a form of self-expression.

there will be people who will flaunt almost every disorder or problem not just depression. drug use, anorexia, panic attacks etc. to make themselves seem interesting.

but as well i guess you cant judge what that person may be feeling, he might be truly depressed and be flaunting it as an emo fad to make it seem tolerable to himself. it may well be his way to cope.

sounds strange but different people do things differently.
