How does a 13 y/o w/ADHD fit in?

My daughter is 13 and has ADHD really bad. She knows she is hyper and tries to control it, but her excessive energy turns other kids her age off. She is just as bright as the rest of her class, but requires an aide to help her stay focused in class, therefore the other kids have labeled her "special ed". She also has issues with others because she refuses to follow the "in" trends. She wants to be herself, not part of a "herd" as she calls it.

She has a really good friend who is pretty popular and stands up for her. Tells the other kids how special my daughter is because she doesn't care about bad hair days and always provokes a smile.

The problem is, my daughter still feels very left out and wants to know how to fit in better. I cannot help her except to give lame adult advice like stay yourself and 1 good friend is worth their weight in gold and etc. The thing is, it''s all good advice, but in the real 13 y/o world it means peanuts. What advice can other 13 y/o's here give her?

I am a 13 year old girl. Let your daughter know that God made her just the way He wanted her to be. She is like that for a reason, although you may never know what that reason is. But never forget that it is all part of God's special plan for her life. The other kids should respect that.. although most will probably not stop teasing her. Just keep encouraging her!

I am a thirteen year old girl and my boyfriend has added . He may be hyper but hes still himself and nothing is go-in to change that . the same with your daughter . you cannot change who she is or what she does . all you can do is encourage her to do better , calm down , and try to get along with people . she shouldn't have to make friends because eventually she will find a true friend and that will be worth waiting for . its all part of gods plan and all you can do is encourage her and make sure you are a friend and a mom to her no matter what . its all part of gods plan ~ hope i helped .

Please get the book, "Allergies and the Hyperactive Child," as it may help her immensely. (Don't be put off the the "child" part of it - it pertains to everyone, including adults). Author, Dr. Doris Rapp, used booksites, out-of-print. I used it for my son when he was younger and it helped a lot. It is so good that she is her own person and maybe she will be a leader when she is older. Isn't it nice when someone knows how to make you smile? That is so important. Here is a funny question - if she is the one with the horse on the pic - do you have any pets? If you have any dogs, she could do something nice and helpful - sign the dog up for therapy dog visits at hospitals. You and she could go together, and it would be rewarding. It sound like she has a strong personality, and she will need to remember that is a very good thing. Please get the book.
