Notice before you read the question, I am not a Christian, I am actually against the idea of religion but anyway, on to the question. Please dont post any angry posts, this is simply a question I had, but I doubt that wont stop a lot of you from writing. WTF WTF????ZOMG fire Ze missles!!

In all the pictures I've seen of Jesus Christ, he has long hair, why is that, was it a trend back then? And for that matter, EVERY picture I have seen, he is depicted as a white person, I don閳ユ獩 mean to sound racist here, but why is he never depicted as any other race that was around at the time.

To be honest I actually think he looks pretty cool in the biblical pictures, he looks like he could start his own metal band, I would assume his band would sound somewhat like slayer, but anyways, thanks for looking.

1. They didn't have expert barbers 2000 years ago, and Jesus was poor anyway and wouldn't have been able to afford a haircut.

well, they didn't have scissors back then, only swords and knives. can't really cut hair with a sword ya know. well, Europeans had adopted him as a European i guess since they have been christians since the Roman Empire.

It was either depicting him as he is now or as a Jewish kind of person. If you watch passion of the christ by mel gibson, you will notice that Jesus in it looks more like a middle easterner which he really is.

As to the long hair, barbers weren't invented back then, and people didn't feel that they had to look like a baptist preacher to be taken serious.

The book of Isaiah describes Jesus as having his beard plucked out of his face which would have made his face swell and be almost unrecognisable. A lot of people do not know this. Not to mention that his back had deep furrows all over it where he was beaten.

First of all....I am just going to say, I was against religion too...And all it took was one thing and I started believing. I am not condemning you. Yeah.. Jesus was a jew. Also, nobody really know's what the true Jesus looked like "exactly," and the Discovery Channel tried using some face scanning technology -he was a very ugly man according to that. I honestly don't belive that he was the blue eyed, long brown haired person that they make hom out to be.. that was probably just hype put out by the early Catholic faith.

The answer is because all the current images you are likely to see are based on Southern European paintings from the very beginning of the Renaissance.

A historical Jesus would have been a middle eastern Jew and may or may not have had longer hair since there were several schools, literally, of thought about something called "blurious" or hair too long or in a style considered forbidden by the rabbinic authorities.

I am not christian either. Actually Jesus was Arabic. Arabic's do have a darker skin tone. Jesus was made lighter to be more appealing to the Romans, and the Europeans. Howe ever, if you look at your more updated movies, he is a darker skin tone, and yes, the long hair was the style they dealt with. Romans also had longer hair, remember your appearance represents your wealth, and how healthy you might be. it is very true then and now.

As for the hair, people actually did not give a damn about how they looked, or smelled for that matter. You had what you had and that was it. Bic safety razors were also not plentiful.

He was depicted as white, have you seen any pictures of him done by black or oriental artists? It was 2006 years ago, if he's reserected from the dead, has he put on a few pounds?

Jesus had long hair because he no need to cut his hair that his father, God, have given to him. Jesus had no need for material goods like scissors to cut his hair.

No one knows what He looked like, but we do have hints from prophetic scripture. 1) He was not handsome, in that we would physically desire Him. 2) He had a beard, but it was plucked out by the roots by Roman torture.

Long hair was not out of the ordinary, but it was not necessarily long. It may have been dark with large, natural curls. The hair would have been wet looking with oil. The skin was a nice Israeli tan. The rest is just artistic license.
