Bad umpiring?

Yesterday's SRL vs NZ match highlighted how abysmal the quality of umpiring is now-a-days.

Asad Rauf has consistently been giving bad decisions and had a major role to play in India's loss to RSA in January. He continued this trend in CWC 2007.

Steve Bucknor wwho is considered to be a very good umpire has of late also declined in his decision making.

Yesterday two of cricket's best umpires made some horrendous decisions which could have altered the outcome of the game. In light of recent events.

How would you rate the following umpires out of 10 and do you think that the 3rd umpire sould have the power to overrule decisions if they are wrong.

yes, yesterdays umpiring was terrible. two significant LBWs, and a dropped catch awarded were pivotal in the result.

as for making the power of the third umpire supreme, or more significant at least, i tend to think that is the wrong path to tread down - if not only from a marketing point of view.

it will slow the game down too much

i think umpires should be more strongly encouraged to refer decisions (catches they are unsure of, and so forth) to the third umpire, and have the option of looking at replays for LBWs, at their leisure. even this, though could take up too much time. the solution (in an ideal world) is to have better quality umpires..

the hierarchy of umpires? i make it to be something similar to this

- darrell hair

- aleem dar (as much as i hate to admit it, he has improved a LOT)

- simon taufel

- mark benson

- darrell harper

- the rest :D (bad umpires, in general, i think)

as you can see, the list gets short quite quickly. the standard of umpiring in world cricket today just isnt very good.

the 3rd umpire should only be called up when the umpires are in doubt like the inside edge of siva or the ball pitching outside leg. i dont think hawk eye is accurate enough to call lbws.

yes, the 3rd umpire must have the power to overrule decisions if they are wrong by the field umpires.

the first 5 are very good umpires, and the last 3 are the very worst umpires.

i was also so upset about the disitions made by the umpires on the feeld yestaday as a srilankan we all were so angry coz he was giving wrong dicitions and also he tried to make are bollers to mentaly fall by giving wornings.srilanlans never fel they did there best to prove that we are best in cricket.

i think the 3rd umpire should have the rites to talk when the feeld gives a wrong dicition coz the feeld umpires can see it properly

they should definitely bring in the 3rd umpire for decisions....its about time cricket moved into the 21st century....they should introduce snickometer....hawkeye......bat bad decisiosn should be referred bak to the 3rd umpire or the 3rd umpire should b able to tell the umpire whether the decision is right or not....hawkeye may not be 100% accurate...but at least its more accurate than any umpire in the world....i rekon simon taufel...aleem dar....mark benson.....are the 3 best umpires...the 3 worst are rudi koertzen...asad rauf....and steve buknor....they r way too old...their time is up....

Actually in yesterday's srl vs. nzl match,rudi koertzen made a horrible decision by giving it out for an lbw upeel by nzl in bond's over which didnt hit the pad %26amp; was a thick inside edge %26amp; was not out!! on the other hand simon taufel made a mistake %26amp; was for a leg before wicket in oram's over it was going outside leg stump but was given out!! So as far as umpiring is concerned i would say if the umpire has the slightest doubt he has to go for 3rd umpire!! instead of doing so if he gives the wrong decision %26amp; if the 3rd umpire is doubtful %26amp; uses the technology of hawkeye,etc %26amp; finds out its wrong then the 3rd umpire has to over rule the decision.
