Would straight women ever embrace the fashion sense of "butch" lesbians?

The media has given much attention to the 閳ユ笗etrosexual閳?trend where straight men concerned with their appearance seem to adopt or display the fashion lifestyle tendencies of stereotypical gay men.

Could the reverse ever happen where straight women adopt/display the fashion lifestyle tendencies of stereotypical 閳ユ競utch閳?lesbian women?

Some argue that society perpetuates unhealthy, unrealistic, unnecessary and uncomfortable images of female beauty, in the form of dresses/skirts, makeup, excessive jewelry, long hair, bikini swimsuits, or high-heeled shoes, and that most straight women are brainwashed into conforming to such images, mostly for the benefit of attracting men.

Do you think butch lesbians may actually be on to something with their 閳ユ笓ower maintenance閳?fashion sense?

Or do some women genuinely enjoy wearing lipstick or wearing fancy dresses?

i think women do enjoy feeling pretty by wearing dresses and makeup. however, im not sure if the reason they feel pretty is because they know that men will find them more attractive.

it seems like there has been a slight trend in fashion anyway, towards more masculine styles. ive notices a lot of mens suits-inspired wide-leg trousers, suspenders, vests, and dress shirts. this tends to be more high fashion though. i dont know if the average girl on the street might be ready to embrace these trends.

If you remember when the feminist movement was more active, during the 70s and 80s, women did tend to favor shorter haircuts and masculine clothing. do you remember shoulder pads? i dont know if it was for their own convenience or that it was something meant to prove that they could feel and look as powerful as a man.

its harder for women to be taken seriously in positions of power.. they do have to maintain a certain femininity while at the same time conveying authority.

to attempt to answer your question, yes, women do those things mainly to attract men. unfortunately i dont think that will ever change. of course, butch lesbians dont have to attract men, but i think they have their own sense of style that is more likely to attract other lesbians. i think that everyone dresses a certain way to convey who they are and to attract the type of person who will find that style attractive.

Well first of all, the butch look isn't just about manageability its a different style completely and done because they want to look that way. I suspect that in a more open society some straight woman might start dressing like that. I'm not sure though and I'm not sure it's likely to happen too soon.

Women like looking good. We love our dresses, heels and lipsticks. But, I won't lie, I have sported boys jeans and a wife beater like Ciara in like a boy, just bc I liked the look though. Not because I wanted to impress anyone.

It is possible but you don't "transform" naturally. It's 100% mentalltiy.

many straight woman wear comfortable clothes some of the time. They avoid the severe look of the real butch or "heavy dyke" lesbians. i am lesbian and I find the woman who dress as males and have cropped hair extremely unattractive.

i really don't think so-it's not a matter of comfort. i think straight women-myself included-shy away from such a style because of the mere fact that it is a stereotypical "butch" style, and that's not something we want to be identified as, simply because that's not what we are.

also, you have to realize that some straight men are encouraged by the women in their lives to adapt that stereotypical "gay" man style, because it's perhaps neater, and straight women are not necessarily encouraged by the men in their lives to do the same thing.

Does ANYONE just pick one 'way' to dress/look? I have dress clothes, office clothes, casual dress, jeans, sweats, jogging pants, the whole deal.

Sometimes I feel like doing my hair, most of the time I don't, so I don't. Same with makeup. Sometimes I have acrylics, sometimes I don't. I don't think it makes me 'butch' during the times I'm not 'dressed up'. I still look like a girl, NOT like a woman trying to look like a man. Maybe you have to be older to not be able to categorize people just by the way they look and dress.

No, majority of women don't want to look like a guy. They may like the jeans etc, but cut their hair supershort and no makeup, no perfume, no jewerly. Can't see that happening.
