Why do homosexual men portray themselves to be superficial?

Why is it that modern famous homosexuals are always portray themselves to be obsessed with fashion, hair, and other superficial things when historically homosexuals were generally free-thinking people. Plus all the homosexual men I know aren't obsessed with fashion. I am beginning to think that the "gay lifestyle" is nothing more, but a trend in which the fashion industry can make money off of.

Why do homosexual men portray themselves to be superficial?

media portrays an inaccurate view of gay people because that's what straight middle America will buy... Visibility is an evolution... heterosexual people like everyone to fit into a neat and tidy box... and they're becoming increasingly comfortable with the "gay clown" ... the flamboyant gay superhero that comes in and transforms your dump into a tasteful and sophisticated residence... If you look back at history... black people were similarly "weaned" into popular media... starting out as the fat funny black clown with little education who just wanted to do good by people... the "mammy" ... It took a LONG time to get to the Cosby Show... because people wouldn't have bought that in 1935... they would have been offended to see black people be successful and well educated.... I'm just happy that we're finally getting ANY airtime... because before Ellen... there were NO gay people in media... and of course the hetero masses could then believe there weren't any in real life... and they did...

You might just have something there! I cant identify my self with any of the gay celebs.

Why do homosexual men portray themselves to be superficial?

Because it is an un-natural quirk in the human mind to be homosexual, confused state of mind, kind of like trying to make something work that will never work. Example being, like trying to force a square peg in a round hole or vice versa, to simplify things for ya...

Why do homosexual men portray themselves to be superficial?

Like what you said its a trend. Everyones just trying to "fit in". Nothing more than all the highschoolers wearing Abercrombie, or every college student listening to OAR and wearing hemp necklaces.

Why do homosexual men portray themselves to be superficial?

paris and brittany are pretty deep, right?

maybe its "famous people" in general that are superficial...

i'm gay, and i shop at wal-mart, cut my own hair, and sometimes forget to shave...

Why do homosexual men portray themselves to be superficial?

I'm not gay but I've noticed the same thing. It's why when we're told Paul Lynde and Liberace were gay we're like, "Well, yeah they like are sooo gay it was obvious." But when people like Rock Hudson and Raymond Burr were ' brought' out so to speak people are floored because they were rugged, handsome, all-American types that were men's men (literally) and made women swoon.

Everyone loved "The Birdcage" because it made us laugh at the gay experience/world but when "Brokeback Mountain" came along and it wasn't a comedy then people balked at the whole gay sexuality issue--especially in a western setting.

That is like saying Paris Hilton is a typical straight girl.

Gay people in real life are are lot like straight people in real life.
