Have you noticed that whilst sitting on the train or browsing around in shops, that you get the odd kid that will be sitting opposite you with a mornful look across there face listening to terrible screeching music, covered in facial piercings with wacky coloured hair and tattoos looking like there about to commit sucicide. It is these particular kids in school who had the attitude that everyone else was unoriginal, boring and replicas of each other, they dressed in this style to express they are individual but aren't they just conforming to another stereotypical fashion trend, like all the other kids that walk around like this? Yet they are so content on the idea that they are being different? is this a lack of self confidence or a issue of identity or problem with self esteem?
Why do grudgy, gothic, emo's(whatever they refer to themselves as)feel that they are individual?
the funny thing is they don't realize their futility
i had one to tell me
they had formed a club for anarchists
i would tell you who they told me was their president but i wouldn't want to exploit their lack of intelligence or education or both
i just smiled and looked at them like i would anyone who doesn't know that they are incriminating themselves
i laugh ( inside)...lol
Why do grudgy, gothic, emo's(whatever they refer to themselves as)feel that they are individual?
Because they're breaking from the norm of mainstream popular culture....
....just like very other goth/grunger/emo (but don't tell them that!)
The irony being that emo/goth has now become a part of the capitalist popular culture with elements which represent all the things that the original hippies/goths were fighting against!
Why do grudgy, gothic, emo's(whatever they refer to themselves as)feel that they are individual?
they just want to stand out from the norm

I have no idea why you would even want to stereotype your self anyways. It makes you less than what you really are. It totally destroys all that you could be. Loving yourself the way you are is happiness. And God could not be prouder.

love all, accept all, hate none
be who you want to be, if thats who they want to be, let them.

LOL I love this question it made me laugh. I think it's a problem with self esteem.

My guess is typically, Kids will be Kids. Why does this bother you? What did you dress like as a kid?

Yeah, I get your point. They kind of follow that whole, "I'm unique! Just like everyone else!" Unfortunately for them, they get classified whether they like it or not. What they don't realize is that when they decide they are going to be "rebellious" and "anti-conformity" they aren't the only ones. I don't much understand it. If you want to be unique, be yourself, not people's skewed image of "unique."

Most teenagers feel like they have to be different, gothic emo's (or whateva they are) are just trying to be individual!
however, when teen's try to be 'individual' they end up being like evryone else who is trying to be 'individual' and this backfires!!
Goths and emo's are called this because goths dress 'gothicly' with vintage black outfits, emos are named this because people fimd them too 'emotional' they are depressed and not afraid to show it and others find this unsettling!!
these people are just like any other teenager, its just that they are not afraid to show the emotions that the rest of us are feeling!!

It's a lifestyle, like any other. I know a lot of older people [my age, late 20's, early 30's] who are dark in nature, have a lot of tatoos and facial piercings, some who are wiccan, that are quite normal. They go to work, same as I do, pay their bills, like the same television shows I do and so on. They may be into a different night scene than me, but they certainly don't frown upon, or otherwise criticize me for my lifestyle [being different] like you do theirs. What difference does it make to you? I don't think you should form a judgement without knowing what it's like to walk a mile in their shoes. [And yes, I stole that line from Everlast, very talented dude, awesome song] I think the term "emo" [or emotional], is mainly reserved for younger people [teenagers] who seem to be emotional, like many other young people, but manifest it differently. They don't neccessarily feel they are individuals in the sense that you mean, they are certainly different than mainstream society mainly because they remain misunderstood by people like you. This makes them feel disconnected from mainstream society, they simply seek out others that fit the same mold. There is no such thing as individualism in this country, only collectivism. This includes you, while you point out the same for someone else. This concept of "emo", gothic and the like has been around for a long time now, so you're not the first to misunderstand it, and I doubt very seriously that you will be the last. Instead of criticizing someone who is different, why not open your mind to understand them. You don't have to share someone's opinion or point of view, but you can certainly be empathetic. It takes up way less energy, my friend.
Peace

4 years and you think you know something, right? Whatever. If you don't like my answer, perhaps you shouldn't ask the question. The truth hurts sometimes, don't it? The point of my answer was to share with you the gross generalizations you make, and how they don't apply to everyone. You're soooooo smart and know better than anyone else, right? I wasn't patronizing you, but if you feel the shoe fits baby girl, so be it.
Why do grudgy, gothic, emo's(whatever they refer to themselves as)feel that they are individual?
Its just a trend that they are following.
What worries me is that in following this trend, some people self harm. Not because they are depressed (though some claim to be, some might actually be, ya never know) but some do it becuase they think "Oh everyone else is doing it"

I've been wondering this for the longest! They're no different!Just versions of their own favorite fad.
