Why is everyone scared of Emo?

isnt it just a trend, like goth, new wave or punk? Something for kids to do to feel like theyre expressing themselves? A style to emulate from their favorite rock bands?

Should people really be so concerned? Why does everyone ridicule them? Does anyone know what it really means? Does it even mean anything, or is it just having hair over your eyes and skinny jeans? Personally, id rather see kids dressing this way than getting all tarted up to like Brittney Spears (or whatever new pop princess is on the top of the charts) or some hip-hop ho.

I dont see what everyone is so worked up about. If these kids really are "emotionally disturbed" (and what teenager isnt?) how will making jokes about them help? shouldnt people just leave these kids alone?

People aren't generally scared of emos, they just like to make fun of them and attribute emotional problems to them that they almost never actually have.

In my own opinion and the opinions of many other people, it is simply a trend, a style of clothing, music, and expression that is a lot less unique than they seem to think. Just like any other style, some people like it and some people hate it, but emo is different because for some reason more people seem to hate it and say ridiculous things about it than many other styles. They should just leave the kids alone, just as they should leave all other kids alone, and let everyone get on with their lives.

I definitely see emo as a trend, i think of it as an updated word for Gothic, I don't know who came up with it, but it really sounds weak... plus did you see spider man 3... there was an entire montage where Peter goes emo looking, I felt really disappointed, it's not even scary looking... maybe others think of torture and suicide when they look at emo or Gothic(now that sounds cool) people...?

Goth is not a trend. It's been around since the 80s and does not plan on fading away any time soon.

And parents will always be afraid when their kids start acting depressed or doing something that they would never do at that age.

As for the insults, teenagers will be teenagers. They will mock anyone for just about anything.
